Music Readiness Class for Ages 5-7

This Music Class will help you determine your child's readiness to begin private music lessons.

There are five stages of rhythm and tonal development. Traveling through these stages is called Primary Music Development. When a child has completed his fifth stage of rhythm and tonal development, he has achieved Basic Music Competence or the ability to sing in key and accurately keep a beat throughout his body. Children need to be developmentally ready to being private lessons. If a child starts formal training while he is still in the Primary Music Development stage, it will be difficult, frustrating, and often unsuccessful. 

  Considerations beforing beginning Private Lessons:

• Does the child have Basic Music Competence?
• What kind of attention span does he/she have?
• Are small motor skills developed sufficiently?
• Does the child know left from right consistently? 
• Are visual & spatial skills ready to read music?
• Are parents ready and willing to be involved?
• Whose desire is it, the parent's or the child's?

The "Am I Ready?" series performs two functions simultaneously. It will help you observe and understand how your child is developing musically AND it will provide your child with a wide range of musical activities that actually build readiness.

    Activities include:

•     Tonal & rhythm development
•     Spatial & coordination skills
•     Fine motor skills
•     Movement
•     Singing
•     Keyboard readiness
•     Note & staff reading
•     Games
•     Individual Observation Checklist (written)

8 Weeks
Class length: 1 hour

 Parent materials and Handouts so that families can continue musical activities at home.

          2nd child(sibling): $88

          REGISTRATION FEE:

  2nd child(sibling): $75
